Cut And Mend Keyword Research Method

Introduction

Welcome to “Search Hidden Keywords” report. Now, you won’t find a Table Of Contents because this report doesn’t need one. Also, I’m going to keep it short and sweet.

This report is just about one little keyword technique you can use to find new low competition keywords. This report will benefit people who can’t yet afford paid keyword tools. But even with those paid tools, this technique will greatly enrich any marketer’s efforts.

Throughout this entire book, I’ll be mostly using Google’s free keyword research tool. I’ll also mention some other free tool, as well as some paid tools which you should plan on buying in the near future.

Why Do We Need This Method?

When I started learning effective keyword research, I always faced a major hurdle. There were keywords with too much competition. Some keywords could only be used with the help of excellent directories like EzineArticles. But what about my own niche websites?

Even though Article Directories can be used to gain back links and traffic, it is always a bonus to rank for keywords which most of the other people are not even looking at.

The biggest problem in keyword research is that we stick too close to the niche we choose. Clearly speaking, we first choose a niche, then try to brainstorm various keywords for it, and just for that niche. Yes, you will find good keywords to target, but it sometimes need a good knowledge about the niche. Only then you can guess stuffs people might be searching or key-phrases they might be using.

Keyword tools do show up phrases that are searched related to the niche, but there is quite a nice possibility that some keywords just might be missed because they don’t come to the top 200 or 100 or whatever limit the Keyword tool has set-up.

As I said, we stick to our niche too much, and sometimes can’t predict the search terms used by the niche community. Keywords might not even contain the “seed” keyword you’re looking for, yet be targeted at your niche. Thats the reason I said, you need some knowledge about the niche before searching keywords.

In this “Search Hidden Keywords” report, you won’t know which niche you might land upon. But you’ll surely land on many keywords. The competition on this keywords depends on how you apply this method. Slowly but Surely, you’ll develop a knack for keyword research.

Today’s Marketers are least bothered about the niche they’re searching for, as long as it is profitable. This is because there are so many content writers willing to write content about practically any niche, you don’t even need to know the A-B-C of the niche you’re profiting from.

Well, lets move on.

The Actual Method

Well, I call this method, “Cut And Mend”. This method is VERY simple.

Since this is so simple, I’ll first illustrate the method in numbered steps. You’ll understand it there itself, but we’ll also proceed with an example, so that you understand the ins and outs of it.

  1. Choose a niche and type a seed word or a phrase you think is popularly searched in Google’s Keyword Tool (http://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal)
  2. Get a list of long trail keywords. It doesn’t matter if it has any decent search numbers or not.
  3. If you’re using Google’s Keyword Tool as suggested here, never neglect the “Additional Keywords” suggested by Google, apart from ones related to your search terms.
  4. Once you’ve created a short list, eliminate one or two or even three words from each keyword (while maintaining a copy of the original) depending on keyword size.
  5. Search individually for the new keyword list you’ve created
  6. You should be greeted with additional keywords using the same style of sentencing but mostly a completely different niche!

So, did you get an idea about this method? Looks simple, eh? But its very powerful. We mostly never think of other niches, wherein people might try the same “sentence structure” to find something totally different than the current niche.

This uncovers new niches and new keywords, which you can be very hopeful of having low competition.

This method is also intended to be an idea generator for niches, since many a times, we don’t get the knack of finding keywords in new niches or niches we never knew existed.

I know you’re excited, so lets try an example.

Now whatever keyword I research below is just an example. I might not never know anything about the niche. The niches might be profitable or maybe not. It depends on you on how you plan to monetize a niche. But there is always Adsense for most of the keywords. But remember, this is just an example!

Lets begin!

I’ll begin with the keyword “how to acne”. Well, just so that we get started.

I landed on a keyword “how to clean up acne” which has a measly 28 searches per month. Lets chop off “acne”, so our new keyword becomes “how to clean up”.

Lets try searching this new keyword now.

I now landed your keywords like “how to clean up credit report”, “how to clean up oil”, “how to clean up your computer” etc. The first keyword has competition close to 10,000, but the rest are quite low (3 digits). They have advertiser competition too.

Below is an image of a part of keywords returned by Google’s tool.

Cut And Mend Keyword Research 1

So I’ve landed on quite new keywords and hopefully niches up here. Now, many have advertiser competition, and affiliate programs for stuffs like registry software. But you’ll somehow end up getting traffic, and this traffic website would help power your other websites.

Now, just to take this a step further, I’ll just search for “how to up”, removing the word “clean”.

Cut And Mend Keyword Research 2

I’m greeted with quite some keywords with searches per month in thousands, and some with low competition (below 5 thousand). Of course, I have to scroll down a bit and neglect “high competition” keywords shown in the top. Though this is not always the case.

There are also keywords like “how to roll up sleeves” (338 optimized results), “how to put up a fence” (7820 optimized results). I never thought about such keywords. Maybe I can again perform “Cut And Mend” on these keywords and get some more? I could simply have my new keyword as “how to set” (as seen from the above keyword list), and using Google’s filtering option, remove keywords with word “up”, so that the phrase “set up” doesn’t come again repeating the earlier results.

There are no limits to the power of this technique. I believe you should start using it right away!

So, thats all about the method. I hope I kept it simple and concise. The simplicity of this method might make some people think this is useless. But try it out yourself, you’ll be amazed.

Just remember, when starting with a seed keyword, have it related to a niche, any niche, so that you can get long trail keywords easily.

Conclusion

I hope you enjoyed this little report. This report enclosed a very powerful technique to land up on keywords easily. You no longer need to brainstorm the type of phrases people might be using.

It all becomes automatic. This process can be repeated again and again to give you more keywords.
